Another Richard

I tried painting the bronze effect over the weekend but it came up too shiny. I didn't undercoat in black which probably doesn't help but never the less it wasn't what I was looking for. Is there any chance you could bring the Colossus with you on Thursday so I can have a good look? Plus I haven't seen the model in the flesh yet and I'd like to.

maelzch

I'll try fitting it into my case for thursday, tho it is a little awkwardly sized!

My guess why it came up too bright would be that you use a white undercoat, i use black undercoat

When I undercoat with white, for example with my blood bowl team, I always hand undercoat the metal in black. Its a real pain with all the studded spikes on a human blood bowl team, but I think its worth it for the final look.

maelzch

that does sound a bit of a pain! I always just undercoat everything with black, so I don't really have that issue

I normally do too, but I was painting white armour for my blood bowl team, and when painting white, you really need a white undercoat otherwise its very difficult to get a bright clean look.

maelzch

even for white i usually go up from black, but then i like most of my stuff to look dirty and grimy

For white, I undercoat black, paint light grey then highlight with white. Gives it definition and looks white enough.

That's what I'll be doing for my Wissenlanders too, its just with my blood bowl team, I wanted a very clean, perfect white.
