If they tried that at an OG event, they would both get disqualified..

Still it's not the worse I've ever seen, at one of the Brighton tournaments one guy gave his mate a straight 20-0 win to give him first place. But then that guy was a total cheater (ask Dr. Alex from Clapham about the "Rune of Leadership" if you ever see him!) and his mate probably knew better than to try playing him anyway...

Well, now I feel that I have to defend myself!

So....you lucky OG Forum members get 2 tourney reports for the price of 1!!!!!!

THE TALE OF THE SECOND WAR IN WINNERESH

Well, the sun was shining over blighty (this bit isn't fanatsy) when Dan and I headed down to Winneresh War II.

We had an hour and a half drive down to the venue that had changed last minute. Very nice place at a golf course! Tally ho! Four! (Okay, I'll stop).

There had been a lot of drop outs for the event which meant that there was a modest 10 players in the event. Good thing was that I knew about half of the players there so got a chance to catch up. Also meant that we would all be playing a 3rd of the field. My list was as follows:

Bloodthirster, Obsidian Armour, Immortal Fury and Killing Blow
Herald of Tzeentch, Master of Sorcery SHADOW
Herald of Khorne, Armour of Khorne
Herald of Nurgle Battle Standard, Great Standard of Sundering, Staff of Nurgle, Level 1

29 Bloodletters of Khorne, FC, Icon of Endless War
29 Plaguebearers of Nurgle, FC, Standard of Seeping Decay
14 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch, Standard; Musician
5 furies

4 Flamers of Tzeench
1 Fiends of Slaanesh
1 Fiends of Slaanesh

So, onto to the games...

Game 1 vs Ogres

Tyrant, Tenderiser, 4+ ward
Bruiser BSB, 4+ ward (Ironcurse Icon on him or Tyrant)
Butcher, Dispel Scroll
3 Bulls
2 x 8 Ironguts, Standard, Bellower, 1 had Runemaw Banner
50 Gnoblars
2 x 5 Leadbelchers, Bellower
2 Gorgers

Brian rocked up to the table with an ogre list that contained the usual toys. The game had a diagonal deployment. Basically it was always going to run into the middle and kill each other.
It wasn't going well when the PB's got wiped out down to the BSB after getting flanked by a large unit of ironguts. They got rescued by the BT and the BSB ran away and hid. The Bloodletters got mindrazored up and combo charged with the BT killing the BSB and half the unit. The BT and the Tyrant both caused 2 wounds to each other after saves (obsidian armour FTW). Meant that the unit lost by a lot and got wiped out by the BT. Then it was just a clean up operation.

Result 19 - 1 win.

That put me on table 1 for game 2.

Game 2 vs WoC

Level 4
Level 2
BSB
Exalted on Steed
Big unit of knights
Big unit of marauders
Small unit of Tzeentch warriors
Warshrine
2 x unit of dogs

I've played Ben before. Last time I beat him 15-5, so he was out for revenge. This game was a version of blood and glory. I think Ben made a mistake by putting his general and bsb in the same unit. Meant that if I took them out I only had to take out another banner FTW.

Turn 1 I charge the BT into that unit. Flamers kill the 5 horsemen carrying a banner. 1 point to me! BT kills the champ in the unit. Next round of combat the level 4 got smashed amd then the game was mine with the killing of the BSB. Ben had killed a fiend that had killed a hound unit and overrun into a marauder bunker and caused a wound on the level 2. He also killed the flamers after they took out the banner with a chariot charge.

Still, it was over pretty quick with the BT killing blowing the Level 4 3 times and smashing all the characters into the ground.

Result 18-2 win.

That put me 6pts (and a bucket of VP's) ahead of the field and I stayed on table 1.

Game 3 vs Empire.

Arch Lector on War Altar, Speculum
Level 3 Shadow
Level 1 Shadow
Priest
Captain BSB
Captain on Pegasus
25 Halberdiers, FC
25 Swordsmen, FC
10 Crossbowmen, Standard
30 Flagellants, Prophet
2 x 5 Outriders
2 Cannons
Steam Tank

Right, here is where the controversy started. I was at table 1 when Leo came over and placed his army down.

Looking at it I thought to myself that I could get a draw or a minor win out of this game. In order for Leo to beat me by enough to take the tourney he needed at least at 13-7 just to even up the score – then it would be on VP's and I was leading by quite a margin, so essentially he'd need a 14–6 to take the 1st place.

As such he couldn't hang back - he'd have to come to me and get stuck in as the only real ranged threat were the cannons. With the terrain on the board and the scenery (lots of walls) I could hop the BT between these whilst the fiends/furies took out the cannons.

As we went through the lists we discussed about what he'd need in order to get 1st place. After going through the math it was calculated that if we drew, then the only way 2nd place wouldn't be his if someone got tabled on table 2. Looking at the players (Martin and Dan), that wasn't very likely (both players very good with their armies and would be a close fought fight).
Leo lost the roll and started deploying in a corner. I then mirrored his deployed in the opposite corner (as it benefitted me more than him to stay out of sight of the cannons). We were both out of range for spells and out of line of sight due to terrain. After the first few drops it was obvious that he was castling and going ultra defensive in order to secure the draw. The BT wasn't going to fly across the battlefield into sight of the cannons as where he had placed the army it would mean at least 2 rounds of cannon fire. Hearing about his game 1 exploits I wasn't going to risk a 1st place by being silly with the BT and give him the 650vp. If he wanted the win, he'd have to come round the central terrain piece and take on the Bloodletters and PB's on in combat with the BT as the counter attack.  The BT wasn't going to go anywhere near the cannons – I'm not a retard (hush! lol).
After deployment we called it there.

Result 10-10 draw.

We gave in the result slip then decided to play properly to see what would/could/may have happened. We redeployed and the fight was on.
Highlights:
The BT first hid behind a wall, then behind a fiend (can you see the master plan...lol). He played chicken with the cannon before charging into combat (the cannon ball got stuck in the ground!). The bloodletters took out the pope mobile. One cannon went down to furies. BT killed the Flagellants over 3 rounds then ran the swordsmen off the table (which was funny as I told him that he should charge the BT instead of having the BT charge them...). I think I only got off a single spell during the game due to his bucket of dispel dice, and twin scrolls.
The game finished with the horrors trying to fend off the steam tank (which only came out to play once the pit of shades had be destroyed using that bloody annoying scroll). That casket guy kept on stealing all my spells....he was very annoying too.
The DoC army had lost both fiends, the flamers and the furies to the empire (about 300pts). The horrors were nearly all dead, but not quite. Would have finished in a win for me as I took out about 1k of his army give or take.

Summary:
Well, the results came in and I had taken out the event and won a great looking medal:

I felt a little bad for Dan. He could have taken 3rd place if the above is what played out during the game. Saying that, as Dan will attest, he was lucky that Leo and he ran out of time otherwise that would of finished 20-0 to Leo and he would of totally been out of the running for a podium. As it was, Dan was most unlucky that Ben smashed his opponent 19-1, as an 18-2 finish in either his or Ben's game would have give Dan the 3rd place.

Still, should have/could have/would have...
Anyways, I had a great day catching up with some good mates. Had a good travel buddy that kept me entertained to and from the venue (which I thought was very nice too).
I felt the scenarios were actually quite fun in this case. Saying that, I agree with Dan that the order would have been better if it went normal game, diagonal, Blood and Glory.

I hope you enjoyed my tourney report, even if the outcome wasn't to your taste.

Undead Dan

Now that I remember it, there were a LOT of walls on the top table- I remember begging Lance to put some on my table as he set up the first game where I'd be playing vs the Empire. But no, no walls for me to hide my monstah behind :bash;m:

Cyberactivity

Yep, quite a few walls on that table.

Unfortuanetly they were mainly ended up in his deployement zone. I had a couple to hop between but I had to let a cannon get a bead on me (with the fiend in front to shild him) for a shot before the BT could get into combat and start doing what he does best (whilst trying not to die). >:D:-)
