Parliament's "Mothership Connection"
Moon Wiring Club - "Shoes off and Chairs Away"
The Open Mind "The Open Mind" -(Not that great, but theres a killer single on there)

Ok, so mitigating circumstances, I was in the middle of an 11 hour overnight drive and had just lost all radio reception in the borders region of Scotland, no light to look at the beautiful countryside, wife was sleeping and only 1 CD in the car, so here goes;

Billie, by Billie

Cracking pop! :smokinglb:

Did you want to?

Reminds me of the time some friends drove to Spain, and the only tape they had was the best of Buddy Holly. Could have been worse.

After listening to Lee and John enthuse about their favourite metal bands yesterday I feel it to be my duty to provide an alternative to the long haired noisy stuff.

First, we have Japans finest 'Heavy' Jazz band.

Soil and "Pimp" Sessions:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQMgXPFzdg8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axzOcH9KhN0

Secondly, consider Shpongle.  Even if you don't like Goa Trance or Psychedelic Electro you gotta admit this is awesome:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1jPeG1LlaQ

Here's one of the Shpongle guys solo DJ tunes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVCunS_2S-M&feature=related

...and finally album of the year so far for me.  Empire of the Sun:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMJjF4LHOkY

Listen.  Enjoy.

I currently have the new Patrick Wolf album, The Bachelor, on autorepeat... aside from having a (financial) hand in producing it its pretty bloody amazing.
He covers all bases, from folk, orchestral, electro and industrial noise, somehow managing to blend it all into a cohesive album.
If any of those genre's float your boat I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Dan, good posting with a load of stuff that is all new to me. I am a convert to 'heavy jazz' like the sound and energy of that.

Have to admit the Shpongle didn't really do anything for me, I find it hard to listen to trance, got into it a bit at uni but had a little assistance to enhance my enjoyment.

Empire of the sun have quite an early electro sound, listened to a few of the other tracks too, love their visuals, like their music.

Dug out my copy of "Miles Davies at The Filmore" last night. It's post Bitches Brew stuff, and really good.

Had one of my favourites on during the train back from Paris -  "The Seance on Hob's Lane" by Mount Vernon Arts Lab.

Looking forward to the new Mars Volta album thats out on the 20th. Going to the press launch for this, so will be getting an earful of it live.

Also had Tago Mago on, as you can't go wrong with a bit of Can.

Oh, and great album called "Climb the Woode" by Possessed. Band from the early Seventies who released one album before, sadly, they all died when their tourbus crashed into a petrol tanker*.

Bit of a heads up here. BBC4 are showing a documentary on the 23rd Oct, about the Krautrock movement. Most of the big names (Faust, Neu!, Can, Kraftwerk) are mentioned, and should be a good watch.

Pretty heavily into the Krautrock/Kosmiche stuff, and hoping it'll do this music justice. Cluster* will be probably be overlooked (as normal), but I suspect Harmonia might be in there.

If the BBC dig up any old footage for a "Krautrock at the BBC", that'll be me done 'till Christmas.

*to not feature Roedelius would be criminal. Child actor, conscripted into the Nazi youth in the last days of WWII, caught on the wrong side of the wall, escaped, returned and spent years in a Communist prison, babysitter for the Baader Meinhof lot and one of the inventors of modern electronic music. One of the best biographies that I've read.

You are missing out, my Son. Get onto Play and buy the following:

Can - Tago Mago - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x76CeJBbJs8
Neu! -(self titled debut) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbAWBElA6dA
Harmonia - Deluxe - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd1BH7Nbk8c

They should be a good entry point. The Paperhouse footage is one of my favourite music videos - especially the drumming at 3:35. Human metronome!

Oh - and this. I played this so much, it was banned in our house for a while - top volume needed.

I've been listening to the "Blood on Satans Claw" soundtrack a bit too much recently, and it freaked me out a bit (listen and find out why).

Hence I've been playing a bit of Tropicalia, to brighten things up - mostly Os Mutantes.

Oh, and the Psychomania soundtrack is still on (right now, in fact). Respected Jazz musicians, and some of the top session players in the '60s & '70s, playing undead psychedelic biker funk = yes, please.

The film is one of my all timers too - best opening credits evah!

As well as my usual heavy dose of planet Rock radio, I've also been listening to the Eagles of Death Metal a lot recently.  Great band, can only be described as 'sleaze rock'! Really good live too.

I Want You So Hard (Boys Bad News) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZSje2l3VOg) dave grohl + jack black in the video too
Cherry Cola (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbvtHoJXrLM)
I Gotta Feeling (Just Nineteen) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnYnLJgKgBw&feature=PlayList&p=60389A401A784F65&index=1)

That's right, I listen to some current music!

I saw an interview with Blackmore a few years ago. Classic hilarity as he was sitting by a river plunking away and generally making little sense.

Found these a while back - some good egg has been through the Electric Wizard catalogue and synched up a load of appropriate films. Being classic horror movies, there are a few moments in some of them, so look away at the naughty bits if squeamish. Bowel loosening heaviness ahoy!

For no good reason I had a 'soft rock' week this week.  Pouring the sugar on me has been:

Toto- Hold the line, Africa
The Knack- My Sharona
Kenny Loggins- Danger Zone (from  Top Gun)
Powerstation (?I think?) - Some like it hot

I'll have that with extra cheese please waiter.

Less embarrasingly but still fairly orthodox- Elbow- Grounds for Divorce.

Spotify has stopped me listening to the radio completely now.

Nothing wrong with Roxette Mike. I used to be a big fan when I was 12.

Dead Can Dance,
Korpiklaani - Finnish folk metal - totally cheesy but fun
Gogol Bordello - New York Ukrainian gypsy punk
Nigel Kennedy with Kroke Band - UK violin + Polish folk with Jewish inclinations

on air here, for a good mix.

i thought  it was worth resurrecting this thread with my usual blend off "far too mainstream to be cool" nonsense...... :moonwalker:

on the playlist this morning i have mostly been listening to

Florence and the Machine- Rabbit heart (raise it up); you've got the love; dog days are over (seriously i only discovered this album a week ago and it is fantastically awesome, give these ones a few listens- lovely melodic folky rock pap)
Chemical brothers- do it again
big bottom- spinal tap
confusion - new order (pump panel remix)- as featured in the opening  fight scene in the vampire night club in "blade" (is the remix better than the original?  I think so)
you win again - beegees
grounds for divorce- elbow

Had this on my IPod for ages after a mate told me to copy his CD.

Never listened to it until today when I was listening to the Score for the last X-Files movie and there was this song at the end, it was really really good and turned out to be Unkle and from this album..
