I'll go for the box of champions, lucky number 6 (because all the numbers it divides by also add up to it's total, try and find any other number that can do that!).

And once again an entertaining read, though I have to hold issue with your love of I'm a celebrity.  They are all clearly damaged individuals that they care more about what the public thinks of them than enjoying an all expenses paid trip to a jungle, I'd love to do that.

I see your logic, box 28 would also work - because like 6 it's a Perfect Number, not sure what's so perfect about them, maybe they're a good number to choose on the Chinese menu? (Just like to show that I'm not just Lindor Chocolates and I'm a Celebrity!)

I take issue with my own love of I'm A Celebrity... I know it is wrong and I'm bad person for it. I'm hoping by confronting the issue here in the open, it will work a bit like a self-help therapy group and I can overcome this.  :wink;m:: Glad you enjoyed the read.

Tuesday 30th November

I promised, there'd be full update on the final stages of Wizbit yesterday, I know, but for once I actually concentrated on the painting not talking rubbish on here. So the model is done the blog is not. Here's a pic:

I'll endeavour in next week's blog to include all the details on Stage 4, possibly even a picture of Wizbit in focus (but don't hold your breath) and how I painted all the detailing (I found out how the super zoom on my camera works!). Remember keep your suggestions coming in for this week's What's In The Box, you've got until midnight on Friday.

Oh and tomorrow, there'll be a special update here so do check that out, though I endeavour to post it before I go to work so by the time you read this it will probably already be up!

Wednesday 1st December - Forgotten Special Characters Advent Calendar

Yes December is here, hopefully you're feeling well and truly festive and if not remember this month is an excuse to get drunk (as if you needed one).

To celebrate advent I've decided that everyday on The Tale of OG Gamers - High Elves blog, I'll reveal a forgotten Special Character from the Warhammer archives, in what I'm snappily going to call "The Tale of OG Gamers - High Elves: Forgotten Special Characters Advent Calendar". I know Special Characters have a bit of a bad rap in the circles of people who actually know how to play Warhammer properly, but I'm hoping that this nostalgic view over the next 24 days might change your mind.

To keep up the excitement I've added a spoiler in so you actually have to open the door to see the character, I hope you appreciate the effort I've gone to try and make something pointless seem vaguely interesting. So here is Door Number 1:
December 1st: Gorfang Rotgut

Name: Gorfang Rotgut

Original Points Cost: 90

Background: Gorfang Rotgut is chieftain of the Orcs of the Black Crag, leader of the Red Fang Tribe, neighbour and uneasy ally of Skarsnik and has a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. He broke into Dwarf King Kazador's Throne room and shaved his son (much like an 18-30 holiday then).

Original Appearance: Warhammer Armies: Orcs & Goblins - 4th Edition (though originally a less tatty copy than mine)

Last Appearance: Warhammer Armies: Orcs & Goblins - 4th Edition (as far as I know)

Special Rules: Virtually none. He had one more point of Strength and an Extra Wound as compared to a Big Boss (his character level) and he Hates Dwarfs - that's it. Although he can ride a boar, monster or chariot.

My Memories of the Character: Loved and still love the model for this, I have a bit of a soft spot for the 4th edition style, dare I say it more "cute"/friendly looking Orcs & Goblins and this was a nice model. Also as a child who hated painting and assembling, this was a cheap model that could be shoved on a slotta base and Bob's your Father's brother a special character ready to go.

Person most Reminds Me Of: Phil Mitchell

Inclusion in 8th Edition: I think even I could make up the rules to include Gorfang in 8th Edition. Standard Orc Hero character, with the special rule Hates Dwarfs. What do you reckon +5 points to the standard cost. Better let him choose some magic items too.
Hope you enjoyed that, they'll be another door tomorrow. If there's someone you'd like to see in "The Tale of OG Gamers - High Elves: Forgotten Special Characters Advent Calendar" why not PM me (to keep it a surprise for everyone else) their name (pictures and old rules blurb are helpful but not essential) and they might make it in. All it needs to be is a named character that is not in the current edition of Warhammer and it's active supplements - so characters from sources other than army books could potentially count.

Plus remember to vote in What's In the Box, you know the rules!

Meals

Ahh, my very first WHFB army book, that brings a tear to my eye.

God, there were some utterly useless Special Characters back in the day. Wonder if he'll be back in the new book, maybe as a Big'Un champion or something.
There is no problem in life that can't be solved with Heroic Killing Blow:
Plague Furnace, Abomination, Hydra, Wyvern, Arachnarok, Engine of the Gods, Zombie Dragon, Vargulf, Hellcannon. To be continued...

If we assume that there are infinite universes, then in at least one of them, I'm banging Emma Watson. Awesome!

The Trampoline

4th edition where only 1 or 2 units had special rules and only dark elves had an army wide rule. Special Characters back then really only had a few bonus rules which made them special back then.

At night he prances about like some sort of bearded West Country metalhead pixie, planting pink horrors in peoples' army cases and cackling while chanting his mantra, 'it's double sixes my love, take them off, just take them all off'

Mine too, and it's marginally less sad than my first record which was Mr Blobby by Mr Blobby on Audio Cassette - I was a special child.

I'm sure I remember slightly more complex special characters back in the day, perhaps it's rose-tinted glasses and all that. I guess I'll find out over the remaining 23 days.

Thursday 2nd December - Forgotten Special Characters Advent Calendar

Unless you've been snowed in a train for the last 24 hours (as if that would happen) you'll know that for December I'm revealing forgotten Special Characters in "The Tale of OG Gamers - High Elves: Forgotten Special Characters Advent Calendar".

2nd of December so even my maths skills tell me it's Door Number 2:
December 2nd: Tristan le Troubadour avec Jules le Jongleur

Name: Tristran le Troubadour and Jules le Jongleur (and an unnamed horse)

Original Points Cost: 205

Background: Tristran le Troubadour is on his Grail quest and goes around the country singing songs (he's auditioning for The X Factor), Jules le Jongleur is his court jester and goes around on a hobby horse (he is annoying).

Original Appearance: Warhammer Armies: Bretonnia - 5th Edition

Last Appearance: Warhammer Armies: Bretonnia - 5th Edition

Special Rules: A lot more than Gorfang! Tristran: Questing Virtue – Immune to Panic, Virtual of Noble Disdain – Hates all enemy with missile weapons or war machines, if joins a unit may sing one of three songs with the following effects: +1 Combat Resolution, 3+ Natural Dispel, Leadership 10. May change song (or continue) at the beginning of each turn. Jules: Can only be hit by missile fire or in hand-to-hand on a 6+, one enemy of Tristan takes Ld test in hand-to-hand or loses first attack.

My Memories of the Character: Not bad models, despite the 'classic' Bretonnian horse The 5th edition Bretonnian book is filled with a whole host of special characters (14 in fact, of which some are pairs, as in this case, or even triplets), and struggling through French GSCE at the time this raft of French names didn't go down well. Still loved the Bretonnian army, can't work out whether Jules is characterful or just annoying, but he'd probably be fun to paint. Of the Bretonnian characters however not as good model as many of the others at that time, including the amazing Green Knight and Louen Leoncour on Hippogriff (the first one).

Person(s) most Reminds Me Of: Prince Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles and Prince Harry – you can work out who is who.

Inclusion in 8th Edition: Seems to work reasonably well, Tristran would be a Paladin with Questing Virtue and Virtue of Noble Disdain (which both still exist in 6th edition). As before he could sing to either get +1 Combat Resolution, Magic Resistance (4)!, seems a bit high, maybe make that Magic Resistance (3) or Leadership 10. Jules would have the characteristic of a Yeoman Warden (Men-At-Arms Champion), with sufficient movement to keep up with Tristran, 6+ to hit in hand-to-hand (can't see the shooting version of this being any use in 8th) and one enemy must take Ld test or lose attack. Valuing Tristran's special rules at 60 points (I don't know Games Workshop probably just make up the values) and Jules at twice the cost of a Yeoman Warden +10 points, makes the pair worth 206 points (bizarrely close to the original given I just guessed values for the rules!!). Though he'd be annoying to field as, to be any use he'd have to be in a unit and Jules would have to sit at the end (and I don't like units that don't look like neat rectangles – my OCD).
So that's Day 2, maybe we can choose our favourite special character at the end of the run? Remember to PM me any suggestion for inclusion in the calendar, thanks for the votes for What's In the Box, keep them coming! Good luck in the snow!
