Totally agree, The apprentice is 'must see' tv for me, especially this year where the producers have gone totally mad and just picked crazies, not one of them could you take seriously in business..

" Just like King Midas - Everything I touch turns to SOLD! "

Classic line from that nob head in episode 1  :cool3:

Mike

Next years apprentice was being filmed at Rachels office last week... down to the last 4.

Apparently a bit more professional... but you never heard that from me.

*wink wink*

True story.
In the summer of 2011 he moved North... spreading the word of House OG.

I am Mike of House OG.  Ogger in the North.  And Ginger is coming.

Whilst I am enjoying this series, I need Margaret back!

True story.

Next years? Or the final 4 from this year? They are usually only a couple of months behind Real life when they film that show..

I agree about Margaret, She has a great column in the Sun but on the show Karen never says anything!

Monday 25th October

I should apologise firstly for the slightly erratic nature of my posting at present, sadly my other life (as in work, not my superhero alter ego) has gone silly crazy and I've been caught up in a series of 18 hour days over a punishing 19-day straight schedule – ouch! Hence I have been reduced to a gibbering wreck. Regular readers probably won't notice the difference.

Whilst I have been painting Shadow Warriors and Ellyrian Reavers this month, I had a change of heart and decided to put them to one side and instead paint some more exotic units for this month's 200 points – I could always come back to the originals at some point.

If you have the original print run of the current High Elf army book you may not have the rules for the models I've chosen to paint as they featured in an appendix in only the third print run of the book. Even more curiously Games Workshop have never made any models for these units, bizarrely. Now I've never painted any non-Games Workshop models before, but I decided as another company had models for these units it was time to give them a try. I was pleasantly surprised with how easy these models were to assemble. Painting was particularly easy, but the stickers did prove a bit of a challenge. So without further a do here's this week's finished 200 points. There's the High Elf Panda Chariot:

And the Ellyrian Pursuit Reaver 2000.

You'll see I've kept the same paint scheme as I had with the original High Elf army despite the different models. Large areas of white, blue trim on the lights and a yellow trim primarily on the facial areas – looking back this may have been an odd choice, but I think it works. Before I go on, I must point out how easy these new models are to convert, here you can see I decided to make the open-top Lothernian variant of the High Elf Panda Chariot:

In case you don't have the newest version of the High Elf army book, I've reprinted the rules for you here:

High Elf Panda Chariot

Points: 130 – Rare Choice

Unit Type: Chariot

Special Rules: ASBO Issuer, Impact Hits (2D6), Siren Charge, Swiftstride

ASBO Issuer – At the beginning of each turn before charges are declared roll a D6, on a roll of 6 the Panda Chariot immediately issues an ASBO to the nearest enemy unit. If the enemy unit is from The Forces of Order the unit obeys the terms of its ASBO and is removed from the game at the end of Turn 4 as it is forced to follow its curfew. At the end of Turn 4 the unit is immediately removed from the battlefield but no additional victory points are scored. If the enemy unit is from The Forces of Destruction the ASBO only encourages it to do more anti-social acts, the unit immediately charges the nearest terrain feature, if able to do so, and spend the next two turns graffiti-ing it, during this time the unit may perform no other actions. If unable to charge a terrain feature the unit spends three turns climbing into shopping trolleys and racing each other, during this time the unit may perform no other actions.

Siren Charge – The presence of a large siren on a unit alerts friendly models to its position on the battlefield and encourages them to move out of its way, as such units with the Siren Charge special rule are granted with a greater freedom of movement. At the beginning of the movement phase a unit with the Siren Charge rule may declare a charge through a friendly unit at an enemy unit, so long as the enemy unit were a viable target if the intervening friendly unit was not there. The unit with the Siren Charge may declare a charge even if the intervening unit is not making a charge that moves it out of the charge arc of the original unit. Roll the dice as normal to determine the charge distance, if the dice roll is greater than the distance to the target unit the charge is made. The intervening unit simply passes to allow the Siren Charge unit through and then reforms as normal. If the charge distance is failed however the unit with the Siren Charge stops part way through the intervening unit, both units are forced to miss a turn whilst the intervening unit makes a formal report to the Police Complaints Commission.

See the example below:

The High Elf Panda Chariot wishes to charge the Tzeentch Chaos Warriors. Because it has the Siren Charge special rule it may declare a charge against any unit that would be a valid target were the Lothern Sea Guard not there, regardless of the intentions of the Lothern Sea Guard.

If the roll is successfully made then the High Elf Panda Chariot charges the Chaos Warriors as normal.

If the roll is failed made then the High Elf Panda Chariot gets stuck in the Lothern Sea Guard, neither unit may move that turn.

High Elf Ellyrian Pursuit Reaver 2000

Points: 70 – Rare Choice

Unit Type: Special

Special Rules: Fast Calvary, Flashing Lights, Superswift Stride

Flashing Lights – A unit with Flashing Lights special rule causes all units of War Beasts or Calvary with 2D6" to take a panic test at the beginning of the owning players turn. If the unit fails it flees directly away from the target.

Superswift Stride – A unit with the Superswift Stride rolls 4D6 when rolling to pursue or flee and discards the lowest result. On a roll of 3 or more 1s however the unit is hit by passing a motorist who didn't see them in their wing mirror and takes 1 wound with no armour saves possible.

Additionally units with the Superswift Stride rule must half their movement in built up areas, and if one of the buildings is a school they are reduced to a quarter movement. When the unit passes more than 6" away from the buildings its full movement is restored.

Here's a couple of photos of the models in action in a recent battle.

The Warhounds fail the panic test caused by the Flashing Lights and flee from the Ellyrian Pursuit Reaver 2000.

At close range the High Elf Panda Chariot takes a direct hit from the Dwarf stone thrower.

The Ellyrian Pursuit Reaver 2000 uses its Superswift Stride rule to flee from the Warriors of Chaos battleline when they unveil their secret weapon of a Khornate Fire Engine of Doom.

If you like the models for the Panda Chariot and Ellyrian Pursuit Reaver 2000 then I'm sure Ol would be able to stock them for you. I'm very pleased with mine. And at 200 points for the pare they make a good addition to my fledgling force, next month I need to think about a hero to round off the first 600 points. I'll let you know what I decide in the next blog. Thanks for reading. Apologies for the shorter than usual duration of the blog, this is due to cutbacks unveiled in the recent government spending review.

I nearly forgot to mention that as it's nearly the end of the month, it's time for this month's edition of What's In The Box? You know how we play, there are 36 boxes under my bed, all with random little Games Workshop treats - old models/new models/broken models/painted models/unpainted models. All you have to do is a pick a box, if your pick is randomly drawn I'll open the box and you get to see (not keep!) what's inside!

To play simply reply to this thread with a number between 1 and 36 - box number 3 has already been opened, so don't pick that one! Lines close on Friday at midnight, so don't call after then. The two boxes with the least votes will be forced into the sing off where the judges will decide which should be sent home... or something like that.

Dave

I know you said don't pick box 3 but I really liked it's contents!  Ok fine then box 25 (and not because it's jesus's birthday - for more than one 1 reason.  1.  this is not very likely to be true.  2. I don't give a rats ass about jesus unless he's a bowler wearing an all purply/pink bowling suit).

Those models have a lot in common with GWs stuff, for example:
no clearly distinguished base size has been provided.
There are multiple options for how to assemble the kit
There are a load of fiddly bits that are just too much hassle and you'll end up leaving them to one side.
The faces casting is of poor quality so they eyes are difficult to define well.
Khorne ones are still red.

Also do you work for GWs rules department, because I'm fully expecting half of those to appear in the next few books released!
