Here is the deck I will take to the dark challenge on Saturday:
4 mantis rider
4 goblin rabblemaster
3 seeker of the way
2 ashcloud Phoenix
4 magma jet
4 lightning strike
4 jeskai charm
2 stoke the flames
3 dig through time
2 steam augury
2 suspension fields
1 banishing light
1 chandra, pyromaster
1 sarkhan, the dragonspeaker
4 temple of triumph
4 temple of epiphany
3 battlefield forge
2 shivan reef
2 flooded strand
3 mountain
3 island
2 plains

Sideboard:
2 storm breath dragon
2 end hostilities
2 anger of the gods
2 deflecting palm
2 stubborn denial
1 gods willing
1 keranos, god of storms
3 disdainful stroke

What do u guys think about the numbers and have any suggestions as I'm not sure about the banishing light or the mana base yet

Steve H

I'd go for an extra stoke the flames over the single banishing light... Seems like you are trying to burn people out pretty early so I'm not sure the big planeswalkers (which presumably you are trying banish) should bother you that much... Can't you race them with this deck?

The rest of it is pretty standard! :)

I'd prefer the full 4 flooded strand to help feed the dig through times a bit more, especially as you'll be digging for digs sometimes when looking for your burn to win the game! Probably over 1 forge and 1 reef.

Would Hushwing Gryff not be a good board option for Rhinos etc? Also maybe some enchantment hate? I like the way that it gives you the option to switch to control after boarding too...

Yh hushwing gryff stops the etb of rhino but u still have a 4/5 to deal with and all u have is an irrelevant 2/1, stoke the flames is bad cos it kills nothing, u dont need to cast dig for 2 to make it good, so cutting your red mana seems bad to
Me but could be wrong, and banishing light isn't for walkers (ur right they are irrelevant) its for rhino, brimaz and courser (I want to drop it for a 3rd suspension field but in the 5% cases where u need to hit a sorin or even a death dealer it's a necessary evil.
And it's not a burn deck it's a tempo deck, so burning people out is plan b ounce they've killed ur early creatures and they stabilise on 10-12 life and 2-3 burn spells is enough. And generally u only need to resolve 1 dig to win a game

Stoke the flames does kill Brimaz and Courser though right!? Understand that Rhino is a wider problem but denying a 6 point swing (with the Gryff)  seems fine to me in the board!?

These theories have probably been disproved, but I'm doing them all in my head about a month behind!!! :D

I really do think it should be called Jeskai burn by the way!!! But I'm obviously in the minority!!!! :)

Also thinking about testing Jeskai Charm in my UWR modern deck... Bit expensive but fills multiple roles - don't hate the idea in theory... Probably in board.

It's not a burn deck though, it's a tempo deck.
If plan a was burn your face then I would agree with u about hushwing gryff and the life from rhino but as it stands it's fairly irrelevant, at least pre-board.  The idea with the deck is you deal about 10-15 damage with creatures and clear the way with 1for1 removal and gain advantage with dig through time to burn out the last 5-10 points of damage. You don't want to aim jeskai charm at their face turn 3, u want to play mantis rider and get in for 6-9 (hopefully) before it gets outclassed by wingmate roc and friends

Jeskai charm isn't good enough for modern, it kind of boils down to would u want that or vendilion clique at 3 and I think the answer is obvious

Depends whether the question is "would I like to spaff £200 on 4 vendilions, or would I rather use the charms I already own" ;)
