Title: Papa is coming.......

Preview from the 4th booster pack, out in March...

QuoteWelcome back to the Warhammer: Invasion "card of the week" series. Since the vile Skaven began swarming their way onto tabletops with the debut of The Corruption Cycle, destruction players have found great ways to work them into both Orc and Chaos decks alike. Today, we'll look at a powerful Chaos unit from the upcoming fourth Battle Pack in the cycle, The Deathmaster's Dance, and we'll see how the Skaven can be used to spread the disgusting influence of Nurgle.

The Great Unclean One, his stinking flesh crawling with maggots, is the personification of disease and suffering.

As the Greater Daemon of Nurgle, this foul servant of Chaos brings a formidable might to the battlefield, and can feast on his corrupted allies to bolster his own strength; his owner can sacrifice a corrupt unit to give him an additional point of temporary power! This abominable creature is coming your way later this month with the release of The Deathmaster's Dance.

Nearly as impressive is Clan Moulder's Elite, a fearsome Skaven warrior included in the recently released Tooth and Claw Battle Pack. At a cost of only two resources, this hulking brute boasts an awesome five hit points, as well as two power icons (when attacking; he can't defend).

Here's the point: If you're playing with a Chaos deck in which you've added a few Skaven units, consider the combined attacking power of these two units when used in conjunction with Clan Rats. Drop these inexpensive vermin into your Kingdom and Quest zones, where they can provide extra resources and cards for several rounds as you wait for your battlefield to build up. Once you're able to put both the Great Unclean One and Clan Moulder's Elite into play, launch your attack!

You can now get twice as much firepower out of corrupting your Clan Rats. After you've added power to Clan Moulder's Elite, sacrifice each Clan Rat to bolster the Great Unclean One (yes, multiple corrupted units can be sacrificed to stack the effect!). The result will be a forceful blow that's a great way to burn that final zone!

And the Counterstrike theme continues with the Empire...

QuoteOld White Wolf will sniff you out,
Old White Wolf with braided hair,
Old White Wolf will hunt you down,
Old White Wolf will rip and tear!
- Middenheimer children's rhyme

Like a pack of wolves, devotees of the Cult of Ulric fight together, and with a ferocity and prowess that's admired across the Empire. Followers of the Wolf God believe that ranged weapons are for cowards, and that deception and trickery are entirely without honor... but their presence in your Empire deck will nonetheless let you pull off some combos that are sure to catch your opponent off guard!

Welcome back to the Warhammer: Invasion card of the week series. Today, we'll look at a card from the upcoming Battle Pack The Deathmaster's Dance, which will hit store shelves early next week. We'll also see how it can be used in your Counterstrike-heavy Empire deck to set up a nasty surprise for any would-be attackers.

Ulric's Fury, joining decks on Monday, gives each of your defending units the Counterstrike 1 ability. Since Counterstrike applies before attacker's damage, and since you can play it in the action window immediately following your opponent's declaration of attack, you can potentially wipe out that attack before it even begins!

Of course, your opponent will likely go after an undefended zone... so you'll just have to take control of that decision away from him. Consider the devastating effects of using Sigmar's Intervention (a card from the Core Set) to redirect an attack (after attacking units are declared, of course) to a less vulnerable zone, then adding the might of Ulric's Fury. If it's a zone in which you've already placed Reiksguard Knights, Reiksguard Swordmen, or a similar Counterstrike unit, all the better! Counterstrike stacks, after all.

Or perhaps you've got a card like Nordland Halberdiers, which can jump in during any action window (even on your opponent's turn). With enough resources (and the Empire is known for amassing huge sums), you can throw these hard-hitting warriors down, immediately followed by Ulric's Fury. Just be sure that your enemy actually commits his attacking units to this costly mistake before you spring your trap

Maybe but lets see what they get..

Remember a lot of the good empire stuff is expensive and does not have much cheap attacking units (yet....... :wink;m::)

Being too lazy to check the FAQ now - what is this update to your new easymode cards?

That you can only counterstrike one enemy per card with counter strike.
So my guys with CS4 can't kill 4 1/1 goblins for example...

so still good (especially as the damage can't be cancelled) but can still be victim to Orc rush tactics

Ah ok, swarms for the win then. That's good to know. Does this damage work the same when calculating the damage done at the end of a battle - for instance an attacking unit with 3 force assigning 2 damage to a defender with 2 wounds, and the other to the capital or another defending unit?

No, simply assign the damage to one unit regardless of whether they are only 1 wound, the excess is wasted...

Interesting, have probably been playing that wrong. Although the boyz tend to be piddly so maybe not.
