Return to Port Cadavo

Tales are still told in the Old World of the legendary El Cadavo - adventurer, pirate, gentleman. For the children of his native Estalia, the favourite stories by far are those of his three voyages to Lustria, and the lost cities full of fabulous treasures he found there. Few parents care to finish the story of the third voyage - how the mighty El Cadavo returned from the jungle a broken man, and poured his last pennies away drinking himself to death in a dockside hovel. How not one of the men who had gone with him returned from the steaming rainforest alive.

Now, however, the name of El Cadavo has gained a new cachet - for a cartographer in Marienburg claimed recently to have unearthed one of the pirate lord's maps. Naturally, within the week there were a hundred "copies" circulating through the port city's back streets. Within a month, the rumours have spread to Erengrad and L'Anguille, and men in those cities who have never been to Marienburg are selling "bonafide originals" for a schilling a go.

Spurred by greed and the glitter of gold, ships set sail from up and down the Old World for the Lustrian shore. They will find the lost gold of El Cadavo, and return as rich as kings - or they will die in the jungle and be forgotten to the world.

Probably the latter.

Hi everyone! There was some discussion of this a while back, but it seemed to tail off. I thought I'd get the ball rolling by... actually starting the campaign.

So, first things first - who's up to play? This campaign is a free-for-all, so there is no minimum number of players we need. It would be nice to have at least five, though, so that we get some variety of opponents.

You probably want to know how this is going to work before signing up, so here we go:

Length of Campaign
5 rounds, with 2 weeks to get each round played. So 10 weeks.

Game Types
  • You will need to play one weekday game of Regiments of Renown (Fantasy kill-team) per round. The rules for RoR seem to have vanished off GW's new website but I found them transcribed by some obliging soul here.
  • There will also be at least one large Saturday game each round, using Triumph and Treachery. Participating in these games will be optional, but we will always host at least one per round.
  • Funky scenarios will be provided for both streams, and there will be a narrative map as in the War of King Ogbert's Crown.

Weird Rules
  • Welcome To The Jungle - most games will be played with much denser terrain than usual.
  • We've Got Fun And Games - the Saturday games will use the Events and Encounters rules from the old Lustria campaign book (guess who has a copy!)

How do I play?
  • There will be no official teams. It's every man/woman/orc/extradimensional horror for him/her/itself. Players who feel they are unlikely to be able to play frequently enough are free to team up to make one "player".
  • Each round, you can challenge any other player to play a Regiments of Renown game. Match-ups will not be preset.
  • Once the Saturday session is announced for each round, just let me know via the thread if you want to come.
  • Simples!

This should mean that weekday games are fairly easy for people to fit in - you can play whoever, and you can fit a RoR game in around your tourney practice/NetRunner/MtG/Russian Roulette session if you need to.

But how do I win?
  • Playing games will earn you precious, shiny gold. Each player's gold total will be kept track of in the campaign thread.
  • Each round, you can claim winnings from one weekday RoR game. If you played more than one game, you can choose which one to claim from. Winning wins you more, losing wins you less. Playing opponents you haven't played yet will also get you a small gold bonus. The only way to get zero gold in a round is not to play.
  • Bonus gold (and occasionally other special bonuses) can be won at the Saturday sessions.
  • Whoever has the most gold at the end of the campaign wins, and wins a prize!
  • However, during the campaign, you can also spend your gold.

How can I spend gold?
  • You can use it to hire mercenaries in the weekend games, following the Triumph and Treachery rules.
  • You can convert it directly into Victory Tokens for games of Triumph and Treachery.
Both of these abilities are capped at 20% of your main army's points value. If you spend no gold, you get no mercenaries!
  • And finally, if you have a nefarious scheme, you can give gold to other players as bribes. All such transfers must be approved by the campaign umpire.

Umpire?
That's me. I won't be playing an active faction in the campaign, and won't be eligible to win. I'll administrate the scenarios and the gold totals and generally tell you all what to do. Of course, this being Lustria, some Lizardmen might turn up at some point...

So, any takers?

I'm also good for this. Will have to work out logistics around Kill Team/NetRunner etc but I'm sure things will work itself out.

With my gift of foresight I did take the opportunity to download the RoR pdf while it was still up - so if anyone wants it then PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.

Count me in, I should be able to bring Kill Team and Regiments of Renown along to at least one session a week (hopefully!).

And I'll be using Bretts.
On twitter @tomfeattom - I talk about my band, rock climbing, baking and am sometimes funny*.
*Funniness is subjective and in no way guaranteed.

Excellent - great to see there's interest!

If we can get two more players, we'll have enough for people to nominally play a different opponent (in the RoR stream) every round. I think that'll be plenty to get started.

As long as Gareth still doesn't mind me using one of his armies (probably Beastmen) then I will play...

I don't currently really have an army myself at the moment!!! :D
In the style of Tom Hale... F*ck Ushabti!!!

OK, looks like we have a quorum!

To sign up you just need two things:
  • A fixed RoR roster. See the link I posted or get a copy of the PDF off Pete for the rules.
  • A general of your forces for the large games.
Your general is the guy with the ship, the cash and the map - your RoR are just his enterprising scouts!

The following limitations apply:
  • Your general can be a Lord choice or a Hero choice, but must cost less than 300pts.
  • Your general and your RoR need not come from the same army book, but your forces for the large games must come from the same army book as your general. If you go for different army books then try to come up with an interesting (or amusing) story to explain it!
  • Your general may not be a special character.
  • Your general may not have more than 2 wizard levels (I may waive this if we have any VC players... but I don't think we do?).
Apart from your general, you'll be free to chop and change your lists for the large games - within certain limits that will be set by the scenarios round on round.

There will be bonuses available at the weekend games to develop your general over the course of the campaign. Note that these will not be simply linked to winning - in-character stuff will definitely be rewarded! Please feel free to come up with a personality, backstory, long-winded title etc. for your general - anything you feel like.

I think that's everything. Once we've got the lists in I'll get the ball rolling on Round 1.

A couple of questions while I decide what army/ies I fancy playing:

Does our general have to be our general for the big games, even if he wouldn't normally be? If not could I use something like an Assassin for the role?
Can he change his equipment/mount per game (i.e. can I stick a Plague Priest onto a Furnace for a game, or a Daemonette onto an Exhalted Chariot that may take them over the 250pt mark)?
