Lannisters get reinforcments in the newest expansion for the AGOT LCG, out next week

QuoteHear us roar! Lions of the Rock, the deluxe A Game of Thrones: The Card Game expansion for House Lannister, is now on sale. You can pick it up today at your local retailer or click over to our webstore to order it online.

The 165 cards from Lions of the Rock explore all the classic House Lannister themes of gold, intrigues, infamy, and kneel effects while strengthening the house's secondary Clansman and dominance themes. Powerful new versions of major, unique characters complement a new Lannister-only Agenda, The Power Behind the Throne (Lions of the Rock, 48). Seven new plots, including several Intrigue Gambits, supply Lannister players with devious twists and turns to steer the course of any game.

The Kingslayer's journey

Lions of the Rock gives A Game of Thrones: The Card Game its fourth LCG version of Ser Jaime Lannister (Lions of the Rock, 5) with a revision of the CCG's Valyrian edition featuring the fantastic artwork of Michael Komarck that also adorned our Jaime Lannister Art Sleeves.

This Ser Jaime Lannister balances classic expectations for the character against new mechanics in such a way as to open all new deck designs. Each of the three previous Jaime cards gives him three strength, two icons, and two traits (one of which has always been Knight) for four gold. In that respect, this new version of the Kingslayer hews close to the standard. Lions of the Rock, however, provides Ser Jaime with Renown rather than Infamy or Deadly, adds the Noble crest, and gives him the ability to stand at the beginning of each phase.

QuoteIn a deluxe expansion intended to explore House Lannister's major themes, it may seem a bit odd to strike away from the Kingslayer's classic Infamy, but Ser Jaime's opponents always feared his prowess as much as they reviled his treachery. Moreover, with Devious Intentions (Battle of Ruby Ford, 94), Head of a Dwarf (Refugees of War, 82), and Infamous! (Lions of the Rock, 35), House Lannister has plenty of ways for the Kingslayer to steal power from players' house cards.

Instead, this version explores the Kingslayer's life in a new light. His ability to stand at the beginning of each phase makes him the perfect tool for his house that he was for most of his life, though he constantly gains the opportunity to act for himself. While the most obvious benefit Ser Jaime gets from standing every phase may be to add his strength to the Lannisters' bid for dominance, several other options quickly appear, most of which involve kneeling to meet the costs of other cards prior to the challenges phase. Provided he's the highest-strength non-Army character on the table, Jaime can kneel to claim two power from Into the Lists (Tourney for the Hand, 20) for nearly zero cost. His Noble crest allows him to kneel to pay for the targeted kill ability of Joffrey Baratheon (Princes of the Sun, 36) whenever you play a Small Council event like You've Killed the Wrong Dwarf! (Core Set, 167), and it means you can protect him with a couple copies of The Power of Blood (Core Set, 194) in your plot deck.

QuotePower and infamy

House Lannister suffers no lack of infamy. A misshapen dwarf, incestuous union, boldfaced treachery, and the Kingslayer do little to encourage love for the Lannisters among the other houses. Still, they have wealth and power enough, along with the necessary guile, to earn the respect of their allies and foes alike. Only a fool would turn a blind eye to the Lannisters
