and do any of you play in bands or anything?

Don't recognise a single one of those bands but then I am over 35... :cool3:

Classical I love, and a lot of modern classical, as in film scores, listen to Classic FM nearly every day

Also I love Hardcore Dance music (wierdly) and the more mainstream stuff, Chem Bros, Prodigy etc

BIG Pink Floyd fan, Police, Bowie, Jean Michel Jarre (just saw him at O2), all the 80's great bands basically..

Love classic Rock, Old G&R, Pearl Jam, Nirvana..

Really a bit of everything except for R&B, Rap, American Pop rock rubbish and any music produced by the X factor mob....(even though I like the show)

as any of the guys at the club will tell you, I'm into a lot of heavy music, primarily Iron Maiden!

also like:
AC/DC
Rage Against the Machine
GnR
Slash
Foo Fighters
Alice Cooper
Black Sabbath
Heaven and Hell
Pantera
Disturbed
Dream Theater
System of a Down

generally anything classic rock or heavier and anything else on Planet Rock radio!

Mostly Blues, Classical, Jazz and Opera for me. My family is mostly musicians so I have a pretty eclectic taste, but the favourites are always things that interest me musically. Blues wise anything with Harmonica (I play a bit), particularly Paul Butterfield, Sonny Terry, Adam Gussow, The Muddy Waters Band, James Cotton or either of the Sonny Boys. Also piano blues I adore. Classical mostly Cello (I play a lot), particularly Tortelier whose interpretation of anything he touches I love. Jazz generally anything though I prefer big band arrangements (Georgie Fame, some Van Morrison as mainstream examples) and vocal harmony like Manhattan Transfer.

I have just spent the last half hour or so listening to Slayer, and remembered how much I like their music (Though i have screwed up my speakers now!)

For fear of being shunned out of the club I probably shouldn't join this conversation - though I did see teen band The Wanted today, who were very nice people and I quite enjoyed their song.

I wonder how many others would have this in brackets too!

As for me,
Ac/dc, and lots of it.
Rather a lot of random crap too.
Have a bunch of compilation albums called punk goes...(then pop, classic rock, 80s etc) which are awesome.
My missus has just got into dub step...which I can't stand.

Other than the traditional 'only if they play their own instruments' genre,
Big film score fan, worked with hans zimmers apprentice at school so got hooked on the stuff.

for those of you unsure as to who Slayer are (Ol), here's a couple of their more known tracks
Raining Blood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izK5MdjbWkk)
South of Heaven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwLtTa2trRs&feature=related)

enjoy!

Using the words 'Slayer' and 'well-known tracks' together is a bit optimistic isn't it Lee?

I've been a big fan since about '87 (had Reign in Blood on vinyl limited edition picture disc ), but other than people who actually like old-school Thrash, they're hardly popular ...  :))

Anyway, I'm into some fairly eclectic stuff. Somewhere between Lee and Ol. Loads of 80s pop stuff, New Romantics etc. Cure, Mission, Sisters of Mercy.

Also most genres / sub-genres of metal from New Wave metal like early Maiden / Saxon / Black Sab / Deep Purple, huge AC/DC fan (obv), some shameful 'rock' like Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, ooh also Bruce Hornsby. (Lee's grimacing now, I can tell). Have been known to listen to some fairly emo rock, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil etc. Also like a lot of the baggy jeans American crowd like Foo Fighters, Blink-182, Good Charlotte. Some industrial metal like NiN and Ministry.

Mainly though, metal-wise into the hardcore thrash and speed metal stuff. Megadeth, Metallica, Venom, Slayer obv, Anthrax, Sepultura, Dark Angel. The faster the better, really.

Glad to see some of you are into the more heavy side of things!

Im 30 and still listen to Slayer on a weekly basis. Ive seen them more times than I can remember although they were looking tired this summer (probably due to the fact Araya cant headbang anymore since his back surgery)

Totally did not spot slayer in that list, of course I have heard of them, but not that I would be able to pick out a track of theirs.

@Nick - A sisters fan hey? You should ply me and Ritchie with enough booze to get us to do our Lucretia cover version!

Pendulum, yay.  I love pretty much all D&B/dubstep if it's beyond a simple wobble.

Also a big fan of things like offspring, blink 182, green day and sundry of the ilk.

Jazz & soul also works, nina simone being a personal favourite.

Then there is my love of pretty much every song to ever appear on a vietnam film sound track.

A bit of metal sometimes floats my boat, just depends what mood i'm in.

Gogol Bordello, Gnarls Barkley, Jay Z which reminds me I'm a bit of a closet rap fanboy though not really that emimememememememeneimem fellow or the countless copycats that sprung up.  Wu Tang Clan, Ice Cube, Vanilla Ice, Ice Tea and all other icy things, Too $hort and a bunch of other hard assed gangbangahs who'll come round and mess you up (as they're always so keen to tell us).

Oh then there is blues, how I love blues and country too.  Good shout on Johnny Cash the man is a genius who clearly liked his curries hot.

And then there is my all time favourite song evah...  Dueling Banjoes

Made of win.

Stuff. Metal, some NR stuff, gothy stuff, techno-gubbinz. Generally anything heavy, whether with guitars, synths or anything in between, but I do have to admit to having a soft spot for some more 'poppy' stuff, I'm not quite as tribal musically as I was fifteen-odd years ago...

Oh and Led Zep are of course the best band the world has ever seen, Black Sabbath and The Cream come close 2nd and 3rd...

Being very old my tastes have expanded over the years:

Started out with anything my folks owned so R0ck & roll Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly etc
Bought loads of Movie theme albums when a bit older
First real Music was Glam MUD, Slade, Wizard etc
Skipped the punk thing but did like the Stranglers & Clash
Big life changer was Tubeway army Gary Numan) plus Ultravox & all the other clones
Always liked good pop, Blondie, The Police, Abba
Drifted into Metal (Motorhead, Rainbow, AC DC) as all my mates where ito it (1st band seen live Motorhead) (was a massive RPG player in this time)
Progressed through a hefty Goth phase following the Mission & Fileds of the Nephelim all over UK as well as keeping up with changes in Metal from the advent of Thrash to Grunge (was a big fan of Mudhoney & Nirvana before they where trendy).
In my mid twenties I fell into the Biker crowd & so stuck more & more with Rock.
Had a hippy phase being mad on New Model Army & the Levellers

I am still amazed at the ammount of excellent new stuff that still comes out & although I mostly just hear new pop as Kids are getting older I have enjoyed a renual of interest in music.

Taking oldest two to see the Green Day Concert showing at Cinemas on 15th November & taking my 12 year old grunge princess to see bullet for my Valentine (very old school band) in December.

My eldest daughter is fortunately a bit of a geek so we are going to see Spamalot in two weeks time (Monty python Musicals FTW)

Lat album baught: Plan B absolutely superb!

Now that my daughters are getting older & getting more interested in music I have now had the pleasure of taking the 12 year old to see Bullet for my Valentine supported by Bring me the Horizon, both excellent bands.

As a complete opposite my eldest is 14 & into musicals so we wnet to see "spamalot" which I can recomend to any python fan.

Erm, not sure there is an artist mentioned where I don't like at least one of their tracks. As a (struggling) guitarist I love guitar music, my preference is, Blackmore, van Halen, Zappa, Gilmour, Darrell, Slash, Frushicante, Moore, Darrell, Gates, Ridgeley, Moore (the other one), Bettencort, Vai, Satriani, Hamnett et al (please note I reserve the right to add to this list).

However I also love Steps, Blue, B*Witched, S Club 7 and a lot of cheesy pop

I also love Pendulum and Bach

An album I have suddenly listened to again and apprciated all over again is 'Little Earthquakes' by Tori Amos, a big hit in the early 90's, well worth a listen IMO...

And currently listening to Damien Rice's last album '9'.....Fab

I like my Indie, EBM, and Alt Rock.

My ALL time favourite Band for no real good reason other than my own qurikness I suppose is MUSE. Matt Bellamy speaks to me somehow (bar that whole vampire business)

I also like: Victory Not Vengence (VNV) Nation, Rotersand, Postal Service, Death Cab For Cutie, Linkin Park (old stuff on the odd occasion), Smashing Pumpkins, some Barenaked Ladies, Coldplay, Killers, KMFDM, MGMT, Gorrilaz, The Fray, Rammstien, Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slipknot, Sum 41, Prodigy, Queen, Radiohead, Snow Patrol, Owl City, MCR (some of it at least), New Found Glory, Nine Inch Nails, One Republic, Bad Religion, Godsmack, Disturbed, Modest Mouse, Deadmau5, Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers (including Dust Brothers), Breaking Benjamin, All-American Rejects, Jimmy Eat World, Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, Blink 182, The Big Pink, (some) Black Eyed Peas, Coheed and Cambria, DeVotchKa, Fatboy Slim, Combichrist, Flogging Molly, Wheatus, Harvey Danger, Tinchy Snyder, Example, T.I. Keane and (for the giggle) The Lonely Island crew.

Its a weird selection but it suits me. I'm sure I could put more up but this is the general area I tend to pertain to.

I remember Electric Six! I think I've got their first album somewhere......

I've recently been listening to the new Foo Fighters album, never been massively into them but this new album is pretty heavy for them, so that works for me!

http://www.facebook.com/foofighters?sk=app_209000812460148 (http://www.facebook.com/foofighters?sk=app_209000812460148)

Also a big fan of Arcade Fire, saw them at the O2 in December and they are one of the best live bands I've seen!

I suppose the rest can be split into currently listening to: Bright Eyes, Janis Joplin, the new REM album (again I'm not really a fan of REM but...) and the Joy Formidable (worth a listen)

and notable mentions: Queens of the Stone Age, Muse, The Decemberists (everybody loves folk!), Daftpunk, Manics & Pink Floyd

I am liking the Low stuff, although I suspect an album might be a bit too sophorific. Trivium have some great guitar work and some good tunes but the vocals tend to put me off, surely it is a little early 90s sounding?

And as for Sisters of Mercy....

Every track of the album is a classic, but this has to be my favourite video (there was a full blown war raging scant miles away form where the video was being filmed in Libya at the the time...

I will never forget how excited I was when this video came onto Top of the pops, amongst all the pop crap that was on it at the time, the next week they were in the studio as the song had gone top 20..

Almost wet my pants.... :))

And since I have just found this, I will put this one up as well, classic...

In my youth I was one of those fanatical supporters who followed bands on whole tours, traveling on my bike, sleeping in tents most of the time.
Top live bands for me then where:

New Model Army (probably the most violent pit crowd, used to be covered in bruises)
The Mission
Fields of the Nephelim
The Levellers (first saw these supporting NMA at the old T&C club)
Creaming Jesus
The Claytown Troupe

Was also a big fan of the Cult/Souther death Cult but lost interest when they changed to middle of the road metal.

Sadly nowadays I dont get to many live shows, although I did see Bullet & Bring me the Horizon with one of my daughters & it was ace. was lined up to take her to see Blink 182 but they cancelled.

Interesting to see that some of you younger folk still like some of the old bands.

I've also been rocking out with the Foo Fighters new album, which is a great return to from for them

From the makers of the classic treadmill video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTAAsCNK7RA), I present to you the finest Rube Goldberg machine I've ever seen!

On a different turn, I've been listening to Alice Cooper's new album a lot now, it's really good!

here's a few from it:

The more I spam these maybe the more I can brainwash people into liking them and you will all come see them in London in December!

Nope, and neither are all gamers into heavy metal, I find heavy metal and such very boring.

Much prefer Dance music, as well as whatever I do like (mostly pop and indie).

Here are some of the best Dance songs ever in my humble opinion.

3 & 4 are absolute classic Andy, totally agree....

A few of my dance faves, first one has prob best title ever IMO

And 2 of my all time faves..

Funny thing it growing up I hated dance music when it first came out, its as I have got older I have become a total trance head, who also likes classical music.... :))

Thank's for reminding me of this Ol, how good is comfortably numb at the end there?  Phenomenal. I love Pink Floyd and only recently have I picked up The Wall, which is strange really as I'm a huge fan of Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were here. My favourite track from the wall has to be:

I've also been listening to Hugh Laurie's album, not bad to be honest, my favourite song being:

and finally since Ol mentioned Classical....

If you are new(ish) to Floyd, may I recomend the albums 'Animals' and 'Umma Gumma', awesome 70's madness

Off late I am listening to these epic music a lot. Two Steps from Hell, Thomas Bergesen have created such powerful tracks! Apart from that I am also liking Blackmore's Night and some of their tracks like Storm, Lorley are too good!
