Rawr.

So I finished my first model in my new Legion of Everblight force.

Nephilim Bolt Thrower:

This was the first model I bought, purely because I liked the look of it. I've never painted purple before, and haven't tried snow either so it was a bit of an experiment. I think the purple came out ok, but not quite how I had imagined, I think the contrast is probably a bit too harsh and next time I'll start with a lighter purple base.

I made the mistake of not washing this model, and I keep finding patches of paint rubbing off, which is somewhat irksome.

Next up will probably be the big Carnivean.

Wow, that is really nice. I actually quite like the purple contrast, gives it a savage look.

Obviously I hate him really though, after he shot Kaya in the face last week!  :spamlaser:

CraigM

Woop, finished my second model (which I've owned for about 5 months!)

Lylyth, Herald of Everblight

Photos aren't great, there is some subtle blending on the black side of the cloak, but let's face it, it's all about the back of the cloak really!

Meals

As I've said before, the cloak looks ace. So does the rest of her.

Any reason why you didn't do some blending on the inside of the cloak as well? It might help to brighten the front up a bit with some contrast.
There is no problem in life that can't be solved with Heroic Killing Blow:
Plague Furnace, Abomination, Hydra, Wyvern, Arachnarok, Engine of the Gods, Zombie Dragon, Vargulf, Hellcannon. To be continued...

If we assume that there are infinite universes, then in at least one of them, I'm banging Emma Watson. Awesome!

CraigM

To be honest, I got bored and just wanter her finished. There is a subtle blend on the front of the cloak but it is completely washed out in the pictures*.

On holiday for 2 weeks now, so hoping to crank out more of the 'blight ready for January. :)

*One of these days we'll have to set up a proper lightbox at the club or something.

Likewise, I think the purple on the first one looks pretty cool. Really nice jobs mate
"Sanguinius. It should have been him. He has the vision and strength to take us to victory, and wisdom to rule once victory is won. For all his aloof coolness, he alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood. Each of us carries part of our father - Sanguinius holds it all." Horus

Procrastination by Numbers - Update 146:

I'm painting classic Dwarfs!! PbN Update 146

CraigM

Thanks chaps.

Just about finished another monster for this army, the much feared Carnivean! (He is probably my MVP is most games so deserved the new colours)

This is also the first run out of my new homebrew lightbox. The colours are more yellow/orange than they are IRL, but at least the whole model is covered. My camera has limited settings to adjust whitebalance and exposure sadly, so I'm still experimenting with the best settings.

Let me know what you think!

I'm totally on a roll. Got 2 more models done today, the little shredders:

And a group shot of the contents of the Legion box all done:

Pictures came out very orange, think I need different lamps.

Looking very good matey. What are you using for the snow just out of interest? My Dark Eldar are going to get some winter love... but knowing most people's luck, that ball of snow to the face is more then likely just a big wad of splinters  :wink;m::

Cheers. The snow is 50:50 Bicarb and PVA, well mixed then pasted onto the areas I want it. I was going for thick fresh snow look, as that fits the fluff for the models, so I sprinkled neat bicarb back over the mixture to give it a newly settled texture. Then just grab a soft brush and brush off the excess.

It's very tempting to blow off the excess snow, but I learnt the hard way not to blow it directly back into the bicarb pot, as it blows back in your mouth!  :sick;m:

Angelus Mortifer

Interesting. I've seen several examples of people using bicarb/PVA and the majority all look really heavy and a bit unrealistic, but you've pulled it off really well. Thanks for the tip, and keep 'em coming

Looking good mate! Good to see your making progress, I'll have to try to catch up!

Cheers boys. Here's the models I've got done so far in 2012:

The caster I'm running in the Cross Slow-Grow, Vayl, Disciple of Everblight:

Vayl is a squishy spellslinger with a lot of fun tricks. She's quite hard to get used to in play style, but has a lot of options available to her and has the ability to run a really beast-heavy list, which is good fun to play (don't like infantry much).

Scythean (Heavy Warbeast)

This guy is a pure melee beatstick. He's not quite as strong as the Carnivean (the big guy in my previous post) but he has a longer threat range and is a couple of points cheaper.

Raek (Light warbeast)

This is probably my favourite non-elite beast. He is stealthy and is a good flanking unit, most fun when bounding over people's heads and headbutting warcasters (I still love that you can do that in WM/H).

Seraph (Heavy warbeast)

Although the Seraph is technically a heavy beast, he's more of a support character. He does some reasonable shooting, but doesn't tend to kill much by himself. His special ability (animus) is awesome though, allowing you to reposition models and set up charges.

1 more model and I've got my 25pts list all painted. Up next: Shepherd

Painted the Shepherd last night so I've finished my 25pt list:

Bit rushed and tried some glazing on the cloak... good enough!

So that puts my 25pt list at:

pVayl
*Carnivean
*Scythean
*Seraph
*Shredder
-Shepherd

Up next: 6 Hex Hunters, Bayal and a Strider Deathstalker (so considerably more models than I've had to paint for this round!)

Jonagon

Really great stuff dude, Really like the gold on Vayl, nice and subtle! :)

Angelus Mortifer

Shepherd looks awesome mate, very atmospheric  :cool3:

Finally got round to doing a few more. The Black Frost Shard (a character unit of spellslingers) were the models that attracted me to Legion in the first place:

Tried a few things but mostly just basic blending with glazes and washes. Also tried to bring out the bases a bit more by giving them a bit of an icy blue feel, as I felt there wasn't enough contrast between the rock and the black rim of the base on the other ones. Thoughts?

Angelus Mortifer

Looking very, very good again matey - not bad for a school teacher  :wink;m::

The stone/snow contrast looks a lot better than previous, but that's not to say previous was shoddy, because it wasn't. With your snow mixture, are you able to break up the edges of the snow drift at all, or does it have to be a more solid edge like you've got here? Could just be the pics but sometimes it looks like they're standing on marzipan  :wink;m:: If you could do small patches or sprinkles of broken up snow, it would may be add a bit more authenticity, but that's just me trying to pick holes in some excellent work  :cool3:

Dave

those look flippin awesome.
