Loving this new cycle...

At last they came to a very narrow place where the natural or only slightly hewn cave-walls gave place to walls of wholly artificial masonry, carved into terrible bas-reliefs. These walls, after about a mile of steep ascent, ended with a pair of vast niches, one on each side, in which monstrous, nitre-encrusted images of Yig and Tulu squatted, glaring at each other across the passage as they had glared since the earliest youth of the human world.
–The Mound, H.P. Lovecraft and Zealia Bishop

QuoteIn the scorching deserts of the Southwest, the impenetrable jungles of the Yucatán peninsula, and the breathless vistas of the high Andes, the Great Old Ones stir. Soon they will extend their reach around the globe in The Breathing Jungle, the next exciting Asylum Pack of the Ancient Relics cycle for Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game. In the fourth quarter of 2011, the rainforest canopy will part and reveal the horror lurking in its shadows!

The third chapter of the Ancient Relics expansion cycle, The Breathing Jungle moves the action of Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game from the desolate villages and towns of H.P. Lovecraft's New England and into the ancient rituals and traditions of the wider world, where the search for powerful relics leads to new horrors at the corners of the globe. In this sixty-card Asylum Pack (three copies each of 20 different cards), players explore the dark jungles and lonely mountain tops of Mesoamerica–only days from New England by automobile, yet eons apart.

The Ancient Cycle of Life and Death

Adventurous archaeologists and anthropologists from Miskatonic University pack their bags and head deep into the jungles of Mesoamerica to investigate the ruins of pre-Columbian civilizations. Hidden within the jungles, cultists practice frightening rites and forbidden sacrifices. Monsters from the dawn of time stalk the rainforest's shadows as well as the alleyways of lawless border towns.

The Breathing Jungle is home to new relics, and those who would investigate the unseen and unknown ward themselves with new protections. This Asylum Pack expands the Ancient Relics cycle's study of the course of powerful artifacts moving through the human realm. Both Agency and Miskatonic factions gain new support cards with the Relic subtype.

Of utmost interest to Miskatonic University's fearless and peerless academics is the Disc of Itzamna, an amulet that can protect its wearer from a multitude of harm. Any character to whom this support card is attached cannot be targeted directly by triggered effects like Deep One Assault (Core Set, F56) and Shotgun Blast (Core Set, F16). The amulet's bearer also gains protection from any number of event cards with the Madness subtype, including Agoraphobia (Core Set, F96), Blind Submission (Core Set, F99), Horrifying Daydreams (Perilous Trials, F27), among others.

The Disc of Itzamna is just one of the exciting new cards you can uncover in the fourth quarter of 2011, as you cross the border into a world of mystery with The Breathing Jungle!
